You’ve probably accumulated tons of furniture throughout the years and some of it may still be in good shape, but the rest, especially your grandma’s hand me downs (unless they’re cute and vintage), can get tossed straight to the curb unless you work with what you have and upgrade your furniture.
When you think about it, you’re actually at a great starting point for you and your room since all that your furniture needs is a few tweaks to take it from a hot mess to making you want to show your furniture off to all your friends.
While you’re at it, you’re going to save yourself some serious dough since furniture don’t come cheap (at least the good quality, not the furniture from Ikea).
I say work with what you have before you go out and spend all this money on new furniture.
There are tons of ways that you can upgrade your furniture and make it look completely different. So different that you may not recognize it after you’re done (I’ll accept my thank yous now btw)
Check out these ways you can upgrade your furniture and make you do a double take:
Upgrade Your Furniture: #1 Color Swap
One of the ways you can really transform your furniture and make a big impact is with paint. It’s easy and affordable and a pretty quick update (this shouldn’t take you more than a couple of hours for one piece of furniture). So if you’ve got some time on your hands, go for it and watch and see what a difference paint can make to your furniture.
Grab your sand paper (or sander, if you want to get this over with asap) and paint and start working on your furniture. Bonus tip: go for a paint with primer and that is made for painting the material your working with whether it’s wood, metal, etc.
Upgrade Your Furniture: #2 Just legs
Want to make a big impact in your room, but don’t have the time or patience to paint your furniture? Just tape off the bottom of the legs of your furniture (using painter’s tape), like lets say, your nightstand or side table and just paint that area for a quick update.
You can get all creative with your choice of color too or go the chic route with a black or metallic color.
It’ll make a B-I-G difference. Trust me.
Upgrade Your Furniture: #3 Not Software
No, we’re not talking computers here.
I’m talking about completly changing the hardware of your furniture like drawer pull or knobs. Try going for something brass or a style that matches your personality and vibe so that your room shows off who you are.
Upgrade Your Furniture: #4 Make The Hardware Pop
Maybe you like your hardware and don’t want to change it up. Then for you missy, I say, change up the color.
Go for something bold or metallic. This small upgrade makes a powerful difference and really makes your furniture pop!
Upgrade Your Furniture: #5 Corner it
You can check out Amazon for some pretty and chic brass corners that you can easiy add to your furniture. This little change will make you do a double take and have you wondering what room you’re in (yeah, that drastic lol).
Upgrade Your Furniture: #6 Frame It
Want something that will make your furniture look expensive? Try framing each drawer from your night stand or wardrobe (or whatever you want to upgrade that has drawers) to mimick kitchen cabinets.
You’ll be drooling over your furniture wondering why you didn’t do this sooner.
Upgrade Your Furniture: #7 Pattern, Pattern, Pattern
Turn your furniture into a statement piece by painting a pretty pattern onto it. All you need is a stencil, paint and a stencil brush. Easy upgrade that will really make your furniture look brand new. Check out this tutorial here.
Upgrade Your Furniture: #8 Heavy Metal
If your furniture has a nice shape to it, then accentuate it with some metallic spray paint. Talk about easy.
Upgrade Your Furniture: #9 Leg Upgrade
This is a cool designer trick for a sofa or chair that is a small change, but will really make a your old furniture look like new. Change up the legs on your sofa or just add legs to a wardrobe for a big impact.
